Your pets may be your treasured possessions, but do not forget that tiny, parasitical creatures such as fleas can make it revolting for you to cuddle and love your pets. So, what do you do? Well, if the problem is not severe, you can easily rely on homemade flea treatment options such as eucalyptus leaves and borax. However, if the problem has become more complex, you may be required to use branded anti-flea medications on your pets. There are plenty of such brands available, but if you want to provide the best possible treatment for your pets, then you should definitely go for the Sentinel flea treatment.

We recommend Sentinel flea treatment because it not only protects your pets from external threats such as fleas, but is also highly effective against internal threats such as heartworms. The two main active ingredients that are present in Sentinel are Lufenuron and Milbemycin. The former has been identified as a parasite growth inhibitor whereas the latter is an out-and-out parasitic insecticide. When these two ingredients are combined, as in Sentinel, they can be used for heartworm prevention, intestinal de-worming and flea control.

The active ingredient Milbemycin works by killing young heartworms that are in their early growth period and on way to becoming adult heartworms. Apart from eliminating heartworms, Milbemycin has also been indicated to be effective against other types of dangerous parasites such as hookworms, roundworms, and whip worms. The other active ingredient, Lufenuron, works by disrupting the life cycle of fleas. It targets eggs laid by fleas and prevents them from hatching and producing larvae. It is thus a preventive medication and not exactly a flea killer.

For deriving the best possible results from Sentinel flea treatment, you need to use the medication on your pets at an appropriate time. Most veterinarians recommend early spring as the right time for administering Sentinel flea treatment for pets. The reason is that fleas breed and spread faster in summer. If you wait till summer to administer Sentinel flea treatment, the medication may not be able to control flea infestation.

Another important thing you need to know and understand is the fact that Sentinel will be effective against heartworms only when your pet has not already been diagnosed with heartworms. It is necessary to make it clear to you that Sentinel is only meant to be used as a preventive measure since it is not actually a killer of adult heartworms. For administering Sentinel flea treatment, you may thus have to get a prescription from your veterinarian. Your veterinarian will check your pet for heartworms and he will sanction Sentinel flea treatment only when he is fully satisfied that your pet is free from adult heartworms.

Administering Sentinel flea treatment is quite easy because all you need to do is feed your pet the Sentinel tablet. You will not experience any major problems because these tablets are flavored and most pets like its taste. A better way, however, would be to give the tablet along with food, something that would allow improved absorption. Sentinel flea treatment is quite safe since reported cases of adverse reactions have been quite rare. Try it out and see if it helps strengthen the natural bond that you share with your pets.
